Dr. Unruh has a PhD in School Psychology from the University of Kansas. She worked for 15 years as a School Psychologist in Phoenix, AZ and Asheville, NC prior to joining the faculty at Western Carolina University. While at WCU, Dr. Unruh served as director of the School Psychology graduate program from 2007 to 2020 and returned to being program director in 2023. Also, in 2023, she became director of the McKee Psychological Assessment Clinic. Dr. Unruh has been actively involved in the educational community at the local, regional and state level. In addition, she has served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of School Psychologists for many years.
Since becoming director of the McKee Clinic, Dr. Unruh only teaches courses for the school psychology graduate program and provides supervision for school psychology clinic practicum students. Her graduate courses focus primarily on professional issues in the field of school psychology and the implementation of academic interventions through consultation case studies within an MTSS framework.
Dr. Unruh works with school psychology graduate students to conduct applied research projects within school settings or related to school issues.
