Eligibility

Students are eligible for MAPS services if they meet one of the following criteria:

  • Are a first generation college student
  • Meet income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
  • Identify as emancipated youth, formerly homeless or without consistent residence, or have aged out of foster care
  • Participating in Academic Success Program (ASP)

First Generation College Student

The term first generation college student refers to students whose parents did not obtain a four-year degree from a college or university.

Income guidelines, as determined by the US Department of Heath and Human Services (HHS), are as follows:

Independent Students

Students are eligible for services if they are an emancipated minor, orphan, or will age out of foster care by the time they begin enrollment at WCU. Additionally, students are eligible if they are currently homeless or in danger of becoming homeless within the next six months. (A student is considered homeless if he or she lacks fixed, regular, and adequate housing.)

Academic Success Program

Students who are admitted to WCU through the Academic Success Program (ASP) are automatically eligible to apply for MAPS services. They will receive a personalized invitation prior to their arrival at WCU for the summer session.
