Trick or Treat Yoga
Wednesday, October 25, 7:30-8:30pm, Studio 1
Join guest yoga instructor Chad Hallyburton for this Halloween themed yoga class.
Halloween is a fun time for masks and costumes, but most of us wear a disguise all
year long. If you've ever felt that you need to "trick" the world into believing you're
someone other than who you really are, just to get a "treat," then this class is for
you. We'll explore our true nature and how to live as our authentic self.
Introduction to Mindfulness
Wednesday, November 15, 7:00-8:00pm, Studio 1
This is an experiential workshop where participants will be guided through mindful
eating, breathing, and gentle movement. Mindfulness practice has many benefits including
increased focus, decreased anxiety, and better overall quality of life.
Hawaiian Hula Dance
Tuesday, November 28, 7:30-8:30pm, Studio 2
Come explore Hawaiian culture and the Aloha Spirit through the mind-body experience
of Hawaiian Hula Dance. During the hour we will learn basic hula steps and discuss
aspects of the Hawaiian culture related to music, myths, and movement. Today men and
women of all ages around the world do hula, it is not something reserved only for
those who are living in Hawaii or are Hawaiian. Hula is a low-impact cardiovascular
workout. Through hula, the body is toned and posture is improved while back muscles
strengthen. Calories are burned and definition starts to appear in muscles being worked
differently as some dances have smooth fluid movements whereas others are faster and
require more strength. Mentally, hula enhances memorization through movements and
cultural awareness of myths and legends associated with the dances. Many of the Hawaiian
songs are very peaceful and about nature. Through visualizing and mimicking the movements
of the waves, rain, and wind, dancers can feel the calm spirit of Aloha which helps
to ease tension and stress. Through hula, the other dancers can become lifelong friends
where you feel as if you belong to a part of a larger Ohana (family/community).
