Alternative Fall Break 2008: Atlanta, GA
Alternative Break Program
Western Carolina University offers opportunities to participate in Alternative Breaks in the Fall and Spring. Participants perform short-term, community-based service and learn about problems faced by members of communities with whom they typically would have little or no direct contact.
The WCU program adheres to the eight components of a quality alternative break program (formulated by BreakAway, the national Alternative Break organization): Strong direct service, orientation, education, training, reflection, reorientation, diversity, and alcohol/drug-free.

This year we are offering two Alternative Spring Break trips: a trip to Norfolk, VA, and a trip to Monterrey, Mexico. Participants will volunteer on a variety of community service projects, while also taking time to explore the area. The $150 cost of the VA trip will cover transportation, housing, and most meals. The deadline to apply is March 12. An application is available here. For more information, contact Julia Konish at jkonish@wcu.edu or 828-227-2592. The Mexico trip will cost approximately $1000, and the deadline to apply is February 1. For more information, contact Brendan Braaten at blbraaten1@catamount.wcu.edu or 828-227-2592.
